Presentation & Discussion on Fracking on Jan. 28, 2 P.M., Morton Hall (Ohio University)
Please join the Athens community and public officials to meet and hear presentations by two speakers who have lived through the fracking industry’s recent developments in Texas and West Virginia:
Calvin Tillman, former mayor of Dish, Texas, who is featured in the award winning film Gasland, will speak about his own family’s health deterioration in the midst of fracking pollution as well as what communities can do to better protect themselves.
Dr. S. Thomas Bond, a retired teacher with a Ph.D in inorganic chemistry who lives on a 500 acre farm in Central West Virginia, will focus on connections between land ownership and environment, and a concept from economics, the externalization of costs as related to shale drilling.
The event is on Saturday, January 28 and begins at 2 p.m. in Morton Hall Room 237. A moderated question and answer period will follow, concluding between 4 or 4:30. Elected officials from Athens and throughout Southeast Ohio have been invited and will be provided with reserved seating at the front.
A reception at Jackie O’s following the event at 5 p.m. will expand the opportunity to engage these two privately, and for you to get valuable information to help us here in Athens.
Please invite anyone and everyone you know!
